Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Central London Projects - Based on Site
Contract Value: Up to £10 million
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 (dependent on experience)

Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established subcontractor specialising in raised access flooring systems. The company has over 30 years’ experience delivering high-spec flooring solutions for major commercial, data centre, education and fit-out projects across London.

You will be working on a flagship project in central London, supporting a Senior Quantity Surveyor on a high-value scheme worth up to £10 million, collaborating with a Tier 1 Main Contractor. This role offers hands-on experience in commercial management, from procurement to final account, within a fast-paced, technically specialist environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in managing all aspects of cost control and commercial reporting

• Prepare and manage interim valuations, variations and final accounts

• Support procurement and assessment of subcontractor packages

• Maintain accurate cost records, tracking changes and project progress

• Liaise with site management teams and external stakeholders

• Assist with contract administration, project reporting and compliance

• Participate in value engineering and cost forecasting exercises

• Ensure accurate documentation and audit trails are maintained

• Support with post-contract financial reviews and reporting

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

• Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying or related field

• 1–3 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within a subcontractor or fit-out environment

• Sound understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic estimating/costing software

• Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills

Desirable:

• Experience on projects under Tier 1 Main Contractors

• Familiarity with raised access flooring or specialist subcontracting

• Strong commercial awareness and an eye for detail
